12 Best Family Holiday Destinations in Europe 2022
After the drag of the past two years, it’s very much time to take a holiday. But things might be a little different this time around, especially if you have a toddler (or two) in tow.
If you’re wondering where are the best places to go with toddlers UK or abroad, then check out our family travel 2022 bucket and spade list!
But first, its been a while, so here's a list of essentials of what you need to bring with you, when packing your bags for a vacay with a toddler.
What essentials do you need when travelling with a toddler?
Whether it’s your first of fifth time abroad with the little ones, it’s always worth packing some of the following essentials, to ensure your holiday goes smoothly.
- A fully-charged iPad complete with the iPlayer app, so that you can download all their favourite Cbeebies programmes
- Your Munchy Play kids’ plate of course! How else will you get five minutes peace while you wolf down an overpriced steak at a restaurant!
- Lots of crayons, stickers and paper – there’s never a bad time to get artistic.
- Child-friendly headphones. Whether it’s watching a programme on the ipad, or plugging into in-flight entertainment, you don’t want to forget these!
- A change of outfit for the plane – trust us on this one, it’s always a godsend having a spare pair of clothes when flying with a toddler
- Teething granules – failing that a cold spoon will do wonders – a tip we picked up from cabin crew no less!
- A good pop-up book, and preferably one you don’t mind reading four million times on holiday! Dear Zoo is always a winner.
- A blow up globe beach ball. This one doubles up as a beach toy AND a fun way to teach your child about travelling and the world all-in one!
From the sunny shores or Portugal, to the beauty of the Balearics and glorious sunshine of Croatia, here’s 12 best destinations for family travel 2022.
Brittany, France
If you’d rather drive than take the plane, France is always a popular choice. The northern region of Brittany offers a countryside backdrop, without having to drive through the entire country. If you’re into family camping holidays, this is a popular choice, or if you’d rather chill out then hit the thalassotherapy in Quiberon. Then again with the lure of Disneyland on the outskirts of Paris, you can be forgiven for being side tracked!
Portugal
One of the most family-friendly destinations and just 3-4 hours by plane from the UK, this is always a hit with families of all ages. If you’re planning to go with young children, you won’t be stuck for choice, especially with luxury properties like Pine Cliffs Resort and The Conrad on the luxury southern coast. Be sure to check out amazing beaches in the area too, including Olhos de Água Beach.
Corfu, Greece
Looking for one of the best countries to travel with kids? Greece is a no-brainer, with its warm welcome, stunning beaches and easy cuisine. If you’re looking for one of the best family holidays abroad all inclusive, be sure to check out the serene Greek island of Corfu. The Ikos group has some of the best luxury family hotels throughout Greece, including Ikos Dassia – a stunning five-star complex, which offers all-inclusive options. Which is just as well, because you definitely won’t want to leave, especially when travelling with a small child.

Just a hop, skip and quick flight over to this Balearic Island makes it all worth it. With beautiful waters, first-class hotels and a welcoming island vibe, you can’t go wrong. The Insotel hotel group offer some of the best family hotels you will find on the island. For toddlers there’s plenty of splish splash to be had.

This charming coastal spot is the perfect countryside retreat and great fun for family travel that doesn’t involve taking a plane! No wonder it’s one of the best family holiday destinations 2022 UK.
Don't forget to pack all the essentials like crabbing buckets, spades, wind breakers, and of course you're favourite kids' plate (see below) for snacks on the beach, that won't fly away!
Ibiza
In recent years, Ibiza has shaken off its hard party image and become more of a well-rounded destination where you can enjoy wellbeing as much as clubbing. One of the best places to stay, especially with toddlers, is Santa Eulalia. This peaceful resort town is on the east coast, allowing you to enjoy its coastal vibe, and many outdoor activities too.
Amsterdam
Just a quick flight over to Amsterdam and you’re greeted with bicycles, tulips and pancakes, what more could a kid want? Plus, for older children, there’s plenty of family friendly museums dotted throughout the city to enjoy. One of the joys is that it’s easy to get around by foot, or pram.
Limassol, Cyprus
One of the furthest destinations on the map, but oh so worth it. A warm Cypriot welcome awaits in this paradise island, with family accommodation to suit all budgets. Whether you choose to stay at the new Park Lane Hotel, or reside in favourites such as Amathus Beach Hotel, Limassol is a great place for young families. There’s everything at your disposal, including large swimming pools, with water slides and splash areas for kids, and a beautiful beach – just bring plenty of sun cream.
Edinburgh, Scotland
If the thought of travelling with a toddler on a plane during covid puts you off, then why not drive up to beautiful Scotland? Time your visit well, and a visit to Edinburgh is a great choice for all the family. Between 6-28 August 2022, The Edinburgh International Festival celebrates its 75th year. The Fringe is one of the highlights, with the very best in comedy and entertainment and plenty of events for little ones to get involved in. Check Fringe dates before going, as these may be changeable.
The Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland
International travel with kids doesn’t have to be far flung. Go by ferry or plane to the Emerald isle of Ireland. Why not check out the Wild Atlantic Way? This stretch spans 1,6000 miles from the top to the bottom of Ireland’s west coast – particularly fun for a road trip. However if you’re travelling with young ones you may want to focus around Bundoran near Donnegal, where there’s a waterworld and adventure park – always best enjoyed in the summer months. If that’s not enough, this is a wonderful part of the country to explore its castle history.
Puglia, Italy
At the very bottom boot of Italy lies peaceful Puglia. This breathtaking region is a favourite for water sports and enjoying great local cuisine. There’s often local festivals taking place throughout the summer months, and you won’t find a destination more welcoming of little ones either.
Dalmatia, Croatia
And finally, one of the best family holiday destinations in Europe goes to the stunning backdrop of Dalmatia. One of the most majestic settings for a family holiday, step into the blue waters and discover the local lakes. The food here is second to none, and just a short flight from the UK, makes it a popular
